(c.1663-1672) St. Patrick “Farthing”. F15 PCGS.
Normal wear for the grade, with light weakness seen on the body of St. Patrick. The distinctive brass splasher usually seen on the crown does not show, perhaps due to wear, loss, or toning.

Over 200 varieties of this coinage are believed to exist and the series has never been thoroughly catalogued. Major differences are delineated in the listings by Walter Breen in his Encyclopedia. Questions still remain as to exactly when the coins were struck, and if they were intended to pass as farthings or halfpence. What is known for certain is that many were shipped to America in 1682 for use as legal tender in New Jersey.
