“We jointly and severally promise for our Selves & Partners to take this Bill…” May 1, 1741. Three Pence. FR. MA-87.13PR. PCGS Choice Very Fine-35 Details. Repaired Edge Tears, Signatures Added. As illustrated.

Description: Laid paper. Serial No. 2. 82mm by 120mm. Uniface. Issued from Ipswich in Essex County, and payable to James Eveleth or order. As the Ford cataloger noted, this is “a partially issued bill, the strength of the engraving quality and printing seems to indicate that this is an early plate “Proof” on issue paper, numbered but not used for circulation.” A particularly lovely note, one with even borders, and a note that has been curated to its best possible condition, but in a manner that could even fool experienced collectors. The eye appeal is superior, and its physical characteristics have not been noticeably changed from its appearance in the Ford sale. Qualifiers aside, the present note, a great rarity, will bring a sense of pride to your growing cabinet of Massachusetts notes.
