Virginia. May 4, 1778. Treasury of Virginia. Act of Assembly. One Spanish Milled Dollar. Fr. VA-144b. PCGS Very Fine-20. No qualifiers. As illustrated.

Description: Thick rag paper. Serial No. 1581. Plate letters “up.” Signed by L. Wood. Printer uncertain. Uniface. 95mm by 68mm. Toned paper, moderately faded inking, but bold red serial number and strong signature of L. Wood. A nicely margined note with far fewer flaws than one might expect of a centuries-old paper item. Circulation was kind to this piece, and the stewards who followed in the years since it was first put aside should be commended too!

Pedigree: Ex F.C.C. Boyd Estate; Stack’s sale of the John J. Ford, Jr. Collection, Part XVII, March, 2007, Part of Lot 4440.
