Virginia. May 3, 1779. Treasury of Virginia. Act of Assembly. Three Spanish Milled Dollars. Fr. VA-164. PCGS Very Fine-25 Details. Edge Repairs. As illustrated.

Description: Laid paper. Serial No. 2 [over 1] 16. Plate letters “rg.” Signed by J. Wray and James Cocke. Printer uncertain. Uniface. 95mm by 65mm. Creamy paper, lightly faded imprints, evenly margined if somewhat tight all around. Serial number and signatures strong. “Noted by Doug Ball and John Ford as ‘rare.’ That term was not tossed about frequently in that era, and not one person will ever argue the extreme acumen of the late Doug Ball and his knowledge of all Virginia currency from 1755 to 1861.” So wrote the Ford cataloger in testimony to the scarcity of the issue in all grades. Top-notch quality for the grade.
