A rare Marysville gold rush letter with a promise to pay description from the Assay Office of H. Harris and Company. Embossed Congress Carew seal at upper right on appealing E. Pluribus Unum watermarked paper with shield.

H. Harris along with his late partner, D. Marchand was another gold assayer known for his ingots which were found on the S.S. Central America shipwreck. Marysville was an important mining center for the Feather and Yuba River Mines.
