Another spoon, ostensibly from the California Midwinter International Exposition of 1894. The handle is essentially the same as the previous Baldwin & Co. spoon, but here with an octagonal United States Assay Office of Gold $50 slug dated 1852 and of “900 THOUS” fineness as the bowl of the spoon. Traces of original gilding is still visible in the bowl. An unusual bit and very popular bit of California memorabilia that will make a great addition to any historical Gold Rush collection; perhaps a fortunate bidder will take home the preceding lot and the following lot as well, as all are evidently by the same maker and would make a neat set.
