Undated (1852) Campaign. Major General Winfield Scott. DeWitt-WS-1852-1. Silver. Plain Edge. MS-66 NGC.

41 mm. An esthetic delight. The satiny steel-gray obverse surface is alight with soft pastel traces of rose and blue on the frosty portrait and in the surrounding mirror field. The somewhat more colorful reverse presents an entirely different face of silvery brightness interspersed with rich gold, rose, and blue toning highlights. This rare prize is perhaps one of only two pieces reportedly struck. Further, the presently offered tribute to General Scott is the only NGC-certified example of the variety! As beautiful as it is important.
NGC Census: 1; none finer.

Grading Company: NGC MS66

Pedigree/Collection: From Stack’s Bowers sale of the John J. Ford, Jr. Collection; earlier Wayte Raymond; F.C.C. Boyd estate.
