Description: Dies as illustrated. As nice as you are apt to see for the assigned grade, third-party designation or otherwise. The bright yellow-gold surfaces offer lively olive highlights, an abundance of luster, and boldly delivered design features that rival the finest federal coinage. (The obverse die with the eagle design is of extreme similarity to the eagle design used on numerous mid-1850s Merchant Tokens.) Despite the expanse of open field in the reverse design, only minor abrasions and a handful of minimal ticks are evident to the unaided eye. Among the first of the Gold Rush issuers, Miners Bank pieces circulated at par for a year or so but by late 1850 they were being discounted by 20%, along with the coins of several other enterprises. The present coin is one of just three Mint State grading events for the type noted at PCGS, and despite some higher Mint State numbers awarded at NGC, the present beauty remains a Condition Census coin for this popular early Gold Rush type. Bidding won’t be a cakewalk for this lot.
