Undated (1842-1850). A. Bechtler $1 Gold. Kagin-24. Rarity-4. 27 G., 21 Carats. Plain Edge. Carolina Gold. MS-63 NGC.
This highly lustrous yellow gold specimen looks as if it had sprung form the dies just recently. The truly choice surfaces are hard in appearance, nearly prooflike in fact, and the planchet appears practically blemish-free to the unaided eye. Indeed, marks of any nature are few and far between, and this specimen readily meets and exceeds the standards one would expect from the assigned grade. The CAROLINA GOLD side, our obverse for all intents and purposes, is concave and the other side is noticeably convex with peripheral swelling around the rim. This physically sound and aesthetically rich Bechtler gold dollar ranks high among the NGC grading events registered for this variety, and smart bidders will be prepared well in advance when this coin enters the auction arena.

Obverse: CAROLINA GOLD. around rim from 8 to 4 o’clock, 27.G. at center, 21.C. at rim below.
Reverse: Numeral 1 at center, A.BECHTLER. arcs above, DOL: and a five-pointed star curve below.

Die Alignment: about 270 degrees.

NGC Census: 6; 2 finer (both MS-64).
