Undated (1842-1850). A. Bechtler $1 Gold. Kagin-24. Rarity-4. 27 G., 21 Carats. Plain Edge. Carolina Gold. AU-58 NGC. CAC.
This warm honey-gold specimen enjoys deeper orange highlights throughout. The surface is remarkably prooflike and reflective all through the circular legends on both sides; this piece was probably mirrorlike at the time of striking. Circulation was kind to this little K-24 gold dollar, and all but the most conscientious scrutiny goes unrewarded; what small rewards they are, indeed. Choice for the grade with CAC and the writer giving it the aesthetic and physical seals of approval.

Obverse: CAROLINA GOLD. around rim from 8 to 4 o’clock, 27.G. at center, 21.C. at rim below.
Reverse: Numeral 1 at center, A.BECHTLER. arcs above, DOL: and a five-pointed star curve below.

Die Alignment: about 260 degrees.

NGC Census: Some 200+ examples of the variety have been certified at AU-58 or finer; the finest are two at MS-64.
