Description: Dies as illustrated. A lustrous specimen that offers warm olive-gold surfaces with traces of orange iridescence in the modestly reflective fields. This coin in particular offers a neat look at the technology in the Bechtler minting facilities – an inverted V (or severely broken A lacking a crossbar) was used for the A in CARATS, and the reverse die has cracked in several places. An important Condition Census coin; this is the second-finest example of the variety certified by PCGS, and is outscored in their Population Report by a solitary Uncirculated piece, an MS-63 coin – which we sold in 2017 as part of the Dr. Allan Collection. By way of comparison, NGC has not certified an AU-58 example, but has listed 2 grading events at MS-61 in their Census, with nothing finer. Bidding will be fast, furious, and final when this Condition Census Bechtler $2.50 gold piece hits the auction block. If you want this one, you’ll have to join the bidding melee.

PCGS Population: 1; 1 finer (MS-63).
