Here is one of the most impressive coins among the important Allan Collection of Bechtler pieces. For those who get to enjoy the coin at lot viewing, you will be duly impressed. For those who must rely on the written word or an internet photo, we hope our description does this piece justice. The surfaces are deep and rich gold throughout with a mix of varied orange highlights on both sides. The softly underlying luster springs to life in a bright light source, especially on the reverse where a strong degree of reflectivity is present. This specimen exhibits the same die cracks at 9, 10, and noon as K-10 and K-11. Of seven grading events for this variety at PCGS, this is the only example to receive Mint State recognition! Indeed, to our best recollection, this is far and away the finest specimen of Kagin-12 available to the collecting community. We have not seen or heard tell of a finer specimen, though occasionally a sale such as this will bring a previously unknown specimen out of the proverbial woodwork – but we’re not holding our breath on that premise. Patience is truly a virtue, and you’ll need the patience of a saint if you choose to wait for another example of K-12 to come along, especially one that even approaches the Allan coin in beauty and quality. It’s a buy now or be remorseful later event when this lot enters the auction arena, so plan accordingly!
