Undated (1831-1834). C. Bechtler $1 Gold. Kagin-1. Rarity-4. 30 G., Reeded Edge. Genuine - Cleaned - EF Details PCGS. The warm olive-gold surfaces exhibit the tell-tale signs of a long-ago cleaning while trying to retone in a natural manner. America’s first gold dollar appeared in North Carolina circa 1831, some 18 years prior to the U.S. Mints’ endeavors in the same denomination; Christoph Bechtler was indeed ahead of his time. A popular issue that will come around again visually at some point, and meanwhile affords a nice opportunity for a beginner in the Pioneer Gold discipline.
