Treasury of the City of Albany. January 13, 1792. Two Pence. Fr. NY-263, Harris H-16. PCGS Very Fine-25 Details. Repaired Edge Splits. As illustrated.

Description: Coarse blue card stock. No Serial number. Engraved signature of E. Willett, Treasurer. Printed by C.R. & G. Webster, Albany. Two-Sided. 57mm by 47mm. Called Rarity-7 in the Harris research. Face and back bottom margins tight, otherwise evenly centered throughout. A note that faces up well, even 231 years after the fact. “These are undervalued if placed in the context of municipal paper tokens,” wrote the Ford cataloger, though the value realized in the Ford sale was substantial for such an historical piece of blue paper.

Pedigree: Ex F.C.C. Boyd Estate; Stack’s sale of the John J. Ford, Jr. Collection, Part XVII, March, 2007, Lot 4488. (Ford Price Realized: $862.50)
