Description: No Date (1853? Circa 1880-1895?), BG-209B, PCGS Genuine, Planchet Flaw - UNC Detail. Rarity 8. Large head, similar, but with only 9 stars, one half buried in bust but with hair on nape of neck curled, not wavy; reverse of 204B, die break berry to rim left side of wreath opposite foot of 1, later die state than 204B or 209A. A great rarity, this piece has an obverse die used nowhere else, and its abnormally high weight led Mike Locke to suggest that it might be a muling of the 1890s, using a Period One reverse die that survived that long. However, Frontier, Deviercy's quality was so poor when then began minting that they may have been unable to regulate strip thickness precisely. A numismatic mystery! 3 reported, only 2 in Pop Report. Looks Uncirculated, but struck on an incomplete planchet. PCGS Genuine, Planchet Flaw—UNC Detail William C. O'Connor (PCGS# 10945).
