State of the Massachusetts Bay. September 17, 1776. Twenty Two Shillings. Fr. MA-217. PCGS Very Fine-20 Details. Multiple Repairs, Masking. As illustrated.

Description: Rigid stock. Engraved and printed by Paul Revere. Serial No. 1654. Signed by Dix and Brown. 80mm by 100mm. Two-Sided. Paul Revere’s ever-popular "Sword In Hand" vignette has returned to the back for this issue. A grand note all around, a trifle tight at the top margin where the serial number is halved, but otherwise a fulfilling note. Issued just 75 days after the Declaration of Independence – notice the “State of “ status now enjoyed by Massachusetts Bay. The Ford cataloger told us the following about this note: “A decent looking Sword from an issue date that is probably five times rarer than the August 18, 1775 [sword] series. As such, sometimes overlooked and undervalued.” Do not overlook or undervalue this one, as it will certainly be some time before you see its equal!
