State of Vermont. Windsor. February, 1781. Forty Shillings (in Spanish Mill’d Dollars at Six Shillings Each). Fr. VT-7. PCGS Choice Very Fine-35 Details. Multiple Repairs. As illustrated.

Description: Brittle rice-like paper. Serial No. 1041. Signed by E. Walbridge and Jno. Fasset; countersigned on verso by James Fitch and David Strafford. Printed by Judah P. Spooner and Timothy Green III, Westminster. Two-Sided. 70mm by 89mm. Death to Counterfeit. Once backed by white paper, the curation of the note has revealed a grand back with deep inking and bold signatures not revealed in the Ford photos. Creamy paper color, nicely margined throughout. Rare. Some 30 years ago, the census for this type was just 10 notes. If half again that many have been uncovered in the interim, we would be greatly surprised. One of the highlights of Ford III -- or of the entire Ford colonial currency collection for that matter! A rare note on a rare State, undeniably choice throughout, and eagerly awaiting its next steward.
