State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations. Providence. September 5, 1776. Six Dollars. Fr. RI-250. PCGS Very Fine-25 Details. No qualifiers. As illustrated.

Description: Thick paper. Serial number faded beyond recognition. Signed by J. Congdon, John Dexter, and Tho. Greene. Printed by John Carter. Two-Sided. 71mm by 95mm. A lovely note that has survived for more than two centuries and that still comes up with a “clean” bill of health with the no-qualifiers designation from PCGS. The creamy paper plays host to slightly faded inking, but the evenly bordered vignettes add to the overall appeal. “There were also only 600 notes authorized. As such, rare in any grade,” wrote the Ford cataloger. Not much has changed in the ensuing 17 years!
