State of Rhode Island. South-Kingstown. June Session, 1780. Twenty Shillings. Fr. RI-282.2. PCGS Choice Very Fine-35 Details. Minor Stains. As illustrated.

Description: Thin paper. Serial No. 425. Signed by C. Harris and T. Rumreill. Printed by B. Wheeler. Two-Sided. 81mm by 125mm. Death To Counterfeit. Easily one of the finest notes in the offering as far as eye appeal goes. Nearly everything about this rarity screams “perfection.” The creamy paper supports well-centered and well-inked face devices, the back perhaps even deeper in inking. The Newman Plate Note. PCGS may have been a tad cautious when addressing the grade on this beauty. If another 10 grading points were added here, no one would cry foul. The Ford writer considered this note to be “from the rarest late series on Rhode Island…excessively rare and important.” This note was a major highlight in Ford XV, where its final hammer price exceeded the five-figure mark. We would be surprised if the same sort of reception is missing this time around. One for the ages, and destined to become a centerpiece in an advanced cabinet.
