State of New-York. April 18, 1786. Contemporary Counterfeit One Pound. Fr. NY-224CF. PCGS Choice Extremely Fine-45 Details. Design Redrawn, Pieces Replaced. As illustrated.

Description: Laid paper. Serial No. 1611. “Signed” by A. Lawrence and G. Livingston. “Printed” by S. Loudon. Uniface. 101mm by 64mm. A gorgeous note, counterfeit or any other category. Evenly centered, nicely inked, and bold enough to have fooled many a person all those years ago. The eye appeal is as bold as can be for the assigned grade, which we consider to be a cautious call at PCGS. For information’s sake, the Ford writer noted the paper here was too thin to be from the genuine issue, and certain portions of the printing and vignettes also differ from the genuine notes. A beautiful counterfeit note that should not be ignored at bidding time.

Pedigree: Ex F.C.C. Boyd Estate; Stack’s sale of the John J. Ford, Jr. Collection, Part XV, October, 2006, Lot 8358. (Ford Price Realized: $862.50)
