Description: Thinner woven paper watermarked NEW JERSEY. Serial No. 8540. Signed by Jas. Ewing and B. Smith. Two-Sided, red and black face, black back. Leaf back. Printed by Isaac Collins, Trenton. Standard size. Tis Death To Counterfeit. The ink remains bright and nearly new in appearance, offsetting the attractive golden paper. The signatures and Serial numbers, penned in after the printing press output, are likewise strong and readable. “Without a doubt, an important rarity on the series and the entire state,” noted the Ford catalog’s writer. Only 10,000 of this denomination were printed, and today it ranks among the rarest of the types in this 1786-dated issue. Whether a generalized Colonial note enthusiast or a serious student of the notes of the Garden State, we suspect you won’t find another of these notes any time in the near future. It all depends on you!
