State of Maryland. October 17, 1780. One Tenth of a Dollar or Nine Pence. Fr. MD-124. PCGS Very Fine-20 Details. Minor Edge Repairs. As illustrated.

Description: Frail laid paper. Serial No. 992. Signed by T. Johnson, Jr., faint ink. Printed by F. Green, Annapolis. 85mm by 62mm. Two-Sided. Nice broad front right and back left margins add to the overall aesthetics of this rare note. A tiny chip on the left edge of the front has been repaired, otherwise the note appears true to the Ford catalog color photograph. Ford’s writer noted this was: “A rare series and a choice example on this series. Any note on this series is a Maryland Colonial collectors prize.” The bidders were not asleep the last time this rarity sold, and we suspect there will be no napping this time around. Certain to give the next steward of this note a sense of pride and a sense of connection with the early history of Maryland’s statehood.
