Dies signed Kilenyi and Whitehead – Hoag, and illustrated above. Deep silver-gray throughout with a well-seated lustrous glow and exceptional eye appeal. The relief is moderately high, particularly on the reverse. No untoward marks or blemishes are present, and the gem designation is well-earned here! Issued by the William Penn Commemoration Committee and designed by New York sculptor Julio Kilenyi, the medals were struck by Whitehead & Hoag Co. On October 24, 1932, an international radio hook-up in Philadelphia’s Convention Hall allowed dignitaries such as the President of the United States, the Queen of Holland, the Kings of England and Sweden, and the governors of several surrounding states to speak on this momentous occasion in the history of America’s second state of the Union.
