Title: Scarce Bangala "Spearhead Money"
Description: So-called "spearhead money" of the Bangala people (Bwaka Tribe?, if this is meaningful), Zaire, consists of blunt-edged, heavy "blades" over 16" long, with a knob on the top and the ends twisted; they are completely unsuitable as weapons. Their name, mbili ngbaka, actually means "money of Ngbaka." By the turn of the 19th century they were obsolete. A fine example with minimal rust. See Opitz, pp. 313; this piece illustrated, p. 314.
