Title: SECOND FINEST RUSSIAN-AMERICAN COMPANY 25 KOPECKS (1842-1858) Kardakoff 53.2 PMG NEW-62 Serial # 15123
Description: Rectangular with all four corners neatly clipped as issued. 61mm x 55mm. Black on light off-white parchment. Very sharp and bold impressions for this series, face and back. New with no creases or bends and displaying only light soiling on both sides.
The face printed with the company seal of the double headed Imperia Russian eagle within an oval frame with the Russian legend translated UNDER THE HIGH PATRONAGE OF HIS IMPERIAL MAJESTY. The denomination in words below the seal, upright letters and tightly spaced. The back has a finely engraved oval protector with spiral details with the Russian legend translated NOTE IN AMERICA with the denomination “25 KOP” below. The serial number frame with “No” is at the bottom of the oval, outlined white to allow the serial number to be written in. The base is a shaded rectangle for a signature which is completely faded off.
We know of 19 notes but only eight are not impounded. PMG has graded the Henry Clifford/John J. Ford note CU-63 and the F.C.C. Boyd, John J. Ford specimen described as “Choice About Uncirculated” in the Stacks Bowers Gallery 7/30,2009 brought $14,950 almost a dozen years ago.
