Title: Rarity 8!
Description: 1852 round Half Dol., BG-426, Die State II (heavy obverse die crack). PCGS AU58. Rarity 8. Small Liberty head most like that on the ¼ dollars issued by Antoine Louis Nouizillet (thus attributed to him though unmarked (but only used on this and next), only 9 coarse pearls on coronet, 13 stars; date in wreath, 9 berries on each branch, all paired except at very top. One of the first small California gold coins issued, perhaps the very coin shown to the editor of the New Orleans Daily Picayune June 29, 1852, though Walter Breen thought it to be a BG-427 (next lot). Looks to be bright golden brilliant uncirculated, some dirt in wreath and N. PCGS AU58 William C. O’Connor (PCGS# 10462). PCGS 1 + 2.
