Pedigree/Collection: Tobacco coil ex Paul Dillingham, ex Howard Gibbs Collection with his label: “Portuguese-Africa, Angola, About 1850-80. Coiled tobacco - about 8 foot long. Wrapped with fibre and coils fastened together with pegs. Ex Rare. From Melville Collection (sic), Buffalo Museum of Science." (Howard Gibbs wrote in 1944 that the Melville Collection, exhibited at a World's Fair in California, was acquired by the Buffalo Musuem of Science in the 1930s for the Knox Collection.) Very old.
