Rare Miner’s Exchange Bank Bill. San Francisco, California. Miners' Exchange Bank. Interest Bearing Bill of Exchange. January 24, 1855. Very Fine. Imprint of Britton & Rey, San Francisco. One of the very few Gold Rush Bills of Exchange on Wrights Miners Exchange Bank of San Francisco. This beautiful bill was made out to John McGuire for $260 and was registered by J.N. Olney who also was involved in California Pioneer Telegraphy. Terrific overall appeal and Extremely Fine detail with just subtle circulation in the corner areas and light folds.

The Miners Exchange and Savings Bank and San Francisco Assay Office was formed by Dr. A.S. Wright sometime before July 1, 1854. Wright was an assayer but was not related to Steven A. Wright who issued coins for the Miners Bank in 1849. Dr. Wright’s operation was first located on the corner of Montgomery and Sacramento Streets and later relocated to the northwest corner of Montgomery and Jackson Street.

This Bill of Exchange is a very rare example of Pioneer San Francisco coining and banking documents.
