Title: Rare Body Paint Cakes
Description: Redwood or red camwood powder, called ngola by the Bobangi Tribe, was used for body paint and dying throughout the central basin of Zaire. It was formed into cakes called tukula, which were so valuable that they were used as money. Three rare tukula cakes, of various shapes and patterns and mostly in fresh condition, are included in this lot. See Opitz, pp. 358-59.
