Provincial Convention of Maryland. July 26, 1775. One and Two Thirds of a Dollar. Fr. MD-74. PCGS Very Fine-25 Details. Small Edge Repairs. As illustrated.

Description: Thick paper, printed by F. (Frederick) G. (Green); Thomas Sparrow was responsible for the face plate. Serial No. 8261. Signed by J. Brice and J. Duckett. 125mm by 65mm. Two-Sided. The famed Allegorical note, described as such in the Ford catalog: “The face, from a woodcut by Thomas Sparrow, shows Britannia receiving petition of the Continental Congress (CONG PETI) from America, who tramples a scroll of SLAVERY. To the left is George III, trampling M.[AGNA] CHARTA, and the ornate vignette is the burning of an American port under attack by the British fleet.” The price guide in the Newman reference stops at the Fine grade level for the issue, and with good reason – the note is a rarity at any higher level. This superior-quality piece will serve as a focal point in any collection.
