Province of the Massachusetts-Bay. 1737. Two Pence. Fr. MA-83. PCGS About Uncirculated-50 Details. Small Edge Repairs, Writing in Ink. As illustrated.

Description: Thick laid paper. No Serial number. Signed by J. Willard, lightly in red. 80mm by 68mm. “Two Pence Equal to Six Pence” on back, referring to the Old Tenor/New Tenor changes. The noted “small edge repairs” qualifier is of no significance in the overall story, while the “writing in ink” qualifier amounts to nothing more than a tiny “myxyx” cost code. The in-hand appearance of this rare note is substantial, and it easily warrants the assigned grade at both the physical and aesthetic levels. The appearance of this great rarity may represent a once-in-a-generation opportunity for a specialist in early Massachusetts notes. Perhaps the successful bidder on the just-offered One Penny note should strive to keep the denomination pair together.
