Province of the Massachusetts-Bay. 1737. Four Pence. Fr. MA-85. PCGS Choice Very Fine-35 Details. Minor Design Redrawn, Small Pieces Replaced, Stains, Minor Pencil. As illustrated.

Description: Frail laid paper. No Serial number. Signed by Wm. Dudley (?), faded signature area. 78mm by 68mm. “Four Pence Equal to One Shilling of the Old Tenour” on back. Nicely centered face, with ink and designs crisp save for the faded signature. Tiny “mayxy” cost code on back. Rusty stains at back upper and right margins, with some faint bleed-through onto the front. The eye appeal is splendid despite the qualifiers, and the cosmetics that went into elevating the appearance of the note will prove to be barely discernible to a practiced eye. The potential bidder for this elusive rarity will not be alone. No doubt a room – and a computer – filled with interested specialists will be competing for this grand “Squirrel and Turtle” Four Pence note.
