Description: Thick blue paper stock. No Serial numbers. Two-Sided. Printed by David Hall and William Sellers; this is the team’s first collaboration, occurring after the dissolution of Franklin and Hall. Printed Leaves back design. 166mm by 225mm. To Counterfeit Is Death. An impressive piece. Up to the moment of this description, the present writer had never seen the “Real McCoy” for this item, and it is much more thrilling in person than in photos. The present sheet, actually the upper right corner of a sheet of ten notes, Includes: Forty Shillings or Eight Crowns. Plate B; Four Pounds or Eighty Shillings. Plate A; and Six Pounds. Plate C. The back reads the following in period Spencerian script: “Proof sheet for the / Provincial Treasurer / not to be signed.” As historically important as virtually any other note in this offering, and certainly just as unusual. Established collectors are well aware of this note’s existence. Perhaps even a Ford underbidder or two from the 2005 Ford sale will be back to try their hands again when this one comes up for hammer.

Pedigree: From Stack’s sale of the John J. Ford, Jr. Collection, Part X, May, 2005, Lot 4802. (Ford Price Realized: $4,600)
