Province of Pennsylvania. July 1, 1757. Five Shillings or A Crown. Fr. PA-85. PCGS Extremely Fine-40. No details qualifier, but “Paper Thins” on back of holder. As illustrated.

Description: Thick paper. Serial No. 20116. Plate B. Signed by Tho. Clifford, Fra. Rawle, and Wm. Morris, Jr. Two-Sided. Printed by Benjamin Franklin and David Hall. Printed Leaves back design. 89mm by 79mm. To Counterfeit Is Death. An exemplary note where quality and aesthetics are concerned. The face ink is deeper than that on the back, and the centering is even on both sides. The signatures are all crisp and easily readable, with the top and bottom, along with the serial number, in bold red ink. To think that Ben Franklin possibly handled this note in its infancy is astonishing. A note that faces up well in-hand, and one that would look just as nice in a colonial note cabinet.
