Province of Pennsylvania. January 17, 1723/24. Twenty Shillings. Indented Bill. Fr. PA-15. PCGS Extremely Fine-40. No qualifiers, but Mounting Remnants mentioned on back of holder. As illustrated.

Description: Laid paper with PENNSYLVANIA watermark. Serial No. 7734. Signed by Anth. Morris, Cha. Read, Sam. Hudson, and Fra. Rawle. Uniface. Printer unknown. 105mm by 70mm. This impressive note will enchant the novice and seasoned collector alike. Originally backed by period paper with fancy script-written information, a manuscript in and of itself, with historic period notations aplenty; that backing sheet is included in this lot. The face print is rich and deep, and the note is crisp and fresh in appearance. The grade may even be a trifle on the cautious side to our eyes. A rare and historic note, accompanied by an intriguing letter that could be contemporaneous to the note’s issuance. The Ford price realized for this great rarity was stupendous, and we suspect similar results will be in order here.

Pedigree: Ex F.C.C. Boyd Estate; Stan V. Henkels Manuscript sale, May 4, 1922; Stack’s sale of the John J. Ford, Jr. Collection, Part III, May, 2004, Lot 639. (Ford Price Realized: $17,250)
