Province of Pennsylvania. August 10, 1739. Fifteen Shillings. Indented Bill. Fr. PA-44. PCGS Very Fine-25 Details. Repairs. As illustrated.

Description: Thick paper. Serial No. 17250. Plate B. Signed by J. Harvey, A. Chapman, Tho. Leech, Wm. Monington, and Sam. Smith. Two-Sided. Printed by B. Franklin. Printed leaves back design. 93mm by 73mm. To Counterfeit Is Death. A pleasing note, as rich in history as it is in eye appeal. Nearly split in half horizontally when offered in Ford, but now sensibly and artfully repaired by a skilled paper artisan. Golden paper hues support moderately faded but wholly readable text and signatures; the back is much bolder than the face. Printed by Franklin in “The Twelfth Year of the Reign of K. Geo. II.” This rare and early Franklin print is not often encountered in any grade, and not very often with the overall wholesome appearance of this note. This one won’t come easy at bidding time.

Pedigree: From Stack’s sale of the John J. Ford, Jr. Collection, Part III, May, 2004, Lot 641. (Ford Price Realized: $1,092.50)
