Province of Pennsylvania. August 1, 1746. Twenty Shillings Indented Bill. Fr. PA-54. PCGS Very Fine-20 Details. Repairs, Severed and Reattached. As illustrated.

Description: Sturdy paper. Serial No. 2051. Plate D. Signed by Jo. Harvey, John Hall, Ja. Morris, and probably a fourth signatory too faint to determine. Two-Sided. Printed by Benjamin Franklin. Printed Leaves back design. 67mm by 85mm. To Counterfeit Is Death. An important opportunity for a specialist, or for a collector who simply enjoys rare colonial-era notes. Deeply toned paper. The face imprint is somewhat faded though complete, while the leaf-imprint back offers much bolder details. “A very rare Franklin imprint series, and an extremely key high denomination note,” wrote Ford’s cataloger. Nothing notable has changed where this note’s rarity and desirability are concerned, and the bidding here will probably bear this out.

Pedigree: From Stack’s sale of the John J. Ford, Jr. Collection, Part III, May, 2004, Lot 646. (Ford Price Realized: $1,265)
