Province of Pennsylvania. August 1, 1746. Six Pence Indented Bill. Fr. PA-52. PCGS Very Fine-30 Details. Multiple Repaired Splits. As illustrated.

Description: Sturdy paper. Serial No. 14162. Signed by Jo. Harvey and Ja. Morris. Uniface. Printed by Benjamin Franklin. 62mm by 70mm. A sturdy note with deep golden paper and bold ink details, including the signature and serial number. A very rare note from a very rare series of Franklin issues. Readily among the finest survivors from this August 1746 issue, and an important note as such. The design by Franklin is unlike any other among Pennsylvania notes, immediately drawing the eye due to its unusual approach to the design details. This note’s price took off for the sky when offered in Ford, and we expect today’s bidders will also drive this lot to new heights. A rare Pennsylvania note that is about as fine as any stickler for quality can hope for.

Pedigree: From Stack’s sale of the John J. Ford, Jr. Collection, Part III, May, 2004, Lot 645. (Ford Price Realized: $7,187.50)
