Province of Pennsylvania. April 3, 1772. Six Pence. Fr. PA-152. PCGS Gem Uncirculated-65 PPQ. No qualifiers. As illustrated.

Description: Rigid stock. Serial No. 23209. Plate B. Signed by Sam. Howell, Jr. Two-Sided. Printed by Hall and Sellers. Small format. Pensylvania spelling in text. A glorious piece of paper from a bygone era. The face centering is mostly even though thrown off a bit by the cut of the note; the back is perfectly centered. Mica chips visible in the creamy paper, the bold signature leaks faintly through to the back, strong red serial number. Originally part of a Ford sale group lot, but now relegated to its proper position as a single offering. Gem quality is not a phrase bandied about by colonial note specialists, but be assured, PCGS got this one right with its PPQ designation.

Pedigree: Ex F.C.C. Boyd Estate; Stack’s sale of the John J. Ford, Jr. Collection, Part XV, October, 2006, Part of Lot 8561. (Ford Price Realized: $747.50, the lot)
