Province of New Hampshire. April 3, 1755. Ten Shillings or Two Thirds of a Spanish Mill’d Dollar. Fr. NH-81. PCGS About Uncirculated-55 Details. Stains, Signatures Added, Piece Added. As illustrated.

Description: Laid Paper. No Serial number. “Signed” by John Purnase, Nath. Hurd, and Jacob Hurd; these signatures were added after the fact and are not well accomplished. 145mm, by 90mm. Uniface. Contemporary impression, a Remainder or “Proof” if you will. A special issue, dated at Portsmouth, to fund the Crown Point Expedition. Bold details and inking throughout; probably an early state of the plate. Penned paper backing notation reads: “£25000 emitted on loan for ten years. Belknap Vol.2. P.185.” The PCGS qualifiers include a bit of cosmetic touch-up, but the overall appeal has been enhanced without disturbing the original nature of the note. The original back paper covering is included. Called “extremely rare and desirable” by the Ford writer, who also noted the piece was “a superb plate note from the Newman book, and an important New Hampshire note.” Whether seeking an elusive New Hampshire note for type reasons, or for filling an empty space in an advanced cabinet, the present note will satisfy the need.
