Province of Georgia. May 11, 1769. One Pound Sterling. Fr. GA-47b. PCGS Choice Fine-15 Details. Multiple Repairs, Minor Design Redrawn. As illustrated.

Description: Laid paper. Serial No. 962. Signed by N. Jones, John Milledge, and John Smith. 130mm by 122mm. Uniface. Another Georgia special act certificate, this “for rebuilding the LIGHT-HOUSE ON TYREE ISLAND.” Black ink with red inserts. The bottom margin features a backwards admonition against counterfeiting. The Light-House was first built in 1739 at the mouth of the Savannah River. It stood ninety-feet tall, built of wood, and was the tallest structure in the colonies at the time. It was washed away in a storm in 1741 and rebuilt, again with wood, in 1742. Years later, another storm had its way with the tower, so a new brick tower was erected in its place in 1773, funded by the issue offered here.
