Title: Perfect Kula Ring Valuable
Description: The Trobriand Islands are a key link in the kula ring, and mwali is a major valuable circulated in a counterclockwise direction from island to island. It is an arm ring made from a shell, with an added groove. Mwali were richly decorated with smaller shells, cowries, and sometimes suspended ornaments of seeds to provide a rattling sound; this example has all the elements. It is illustrated in the NNP edition, https://nnp.wustl.edu/library/book/541824, p. 375, top right. See Opitz, pp. 233-34.
