One of Two Known Sets of Gold Rush Ration Script. Lot of (8) 1850's-1860's. Fort Dalles Post Bakery. Bread Rations. Very Fine to Uncirculated. One of two known sets of good for bread ration scripts from Fort Dalles Oregon. These late 1850's to early 1860's were likely used to control bread for both the post soldiers and the local native Americans. Most are endorsed by AH Steele sometimes Post Doctor, Indian Liaison, and Post Treasurer. Wonderful and colorful script connected with the opening of Oregon, the Oregon Trail and the Northwest Indian Wars.

The Dalles was the end of the Oregon Trail and the gateway of commerce in Oregon during the late 1860’s and early 1870’s. In 1858, a U.S. branch min had begun building but was never completed.
