Title: Old Cigarette Money
Description: During and after World War II, cigarettes were a popular currency in Europe and Southeast Asia, both among prisoners of war and civilians. This lot includes seven unopened packs of cigarettes from the 1930s and 1940s (?), from England, France (sold in Corsica), Spain, Norway, and the United States. The American brands include Camel, Lucky Strike, and Chesterfield, the top U.S. brands in 1940 in that order. The Lucky Strike pack has the green wrapper, which was discontinued in 1942, supposedly to save the copper-based green ink for the war effort (this is disputed).
