Description: Three curious examples of 18th-century European playing cards used to make precise squeezings of uncirculated German gold and silver coins on the blank backs (printed backs did not become common until the 19th century): (1) 6 of hearts with impressions of 3 Hesse-Cassel gold ducats, 1725, 1737, and n.d.; (2) 7 of hearts card with impressions of 2 silver coins, Chur-Pfalz and Württemberg, both 1735; and (3) 7 of clubs card with impressions of Prussia, 1/6 thaler, 1766 (not a rare dare, despite card); squeezing made 5 Aug. 1767.
