North Carolina. April 23, 1761. Forty Shillings Proclamation Money. Fr. NC-126. PCGS Very Good-10 Details. Severed and Reattached, Tape Repairs. As illustrated.

Description: Laid paper. Serial No. 583. Signed by Sam. Swann, Jn. Swann, Lewis De Rosset, and John Starkey. Uniface. 88mm by 59mm. Death To Counterfeit. A fine and fetching Forty Shillings for the grade. The ink is still strong, and the PCGS qualifiers were all noted in the Ford write-up. In fact, the verso tape and scattered notations and signatures – including one John Parker – add to the overall historical charm of the piece. From a printing of 1,000 notes.

Pedigree: Ex F.C.C. Boyd Estate; Stack’s sale of the John J. Ford, Jr. Collection, Part VIII, January, 2005, Lot 1572. (Ford Price Realized: $155.25)
