No. Carolina Currency. December 29, 1785 Act of Assembly at Newbern. Forty Shillings or Two Pounds or Five Dollars. Fr. NC-215CF. PCGS Very Fine-30 Details. Small Repaired Edge Tear. As illustrated.

Description: Thick paper. Serial No. 1236. “Signed” by Hunt and Tatum. Two-Sided. “Printed” by Thomas Davis, Hillsborough. 108mm by 71mm. Counterfeiters Beware on face, Death to Counterfeit on back, a double admonition. This rare counterfeit note is an absolute physical and aesthetic treat in spite of its bogus origin. The centering is spot-on, the inking still remains strong, and the paper is crisp. Though a tiny edge tear was curated, this piece appears as natural and untouched as any note seen of the era. Collecting counterfeit Colonial notes is a specialized niche unto itself, but every cabinet should have one example of a spurious note for depth of collection and historic purposes as well.
