Dies: as illustrated above; obverse by Daniel Chester French. Deep sandy gold throughout with mattelike surfaces and rich golden-brown toning in the recessed areas. This beautiful creation features an ultra-high relief female head – perhaps Liberty or Columbia or another muse – by the artist who also created the famed Minuteman statue that stands today at Lexington-Concord in Massachusetts; the statue was later featured on Chester Beach’s Lexington-Concord Sesquicentennial half dollar of 1925. The present piece is the finest of just two examples of the medal certified by NGC. [200-300] NGC Census: 1; none finer.
