N. Carolina Currency. April 2, 1776 Authority of Congress at Halifax. One Eighth of a Dollar. Fr. NC-154g. PCGS Choice Very Fine-35 Details. Small Repairs. As illustrated.

Description: Laid paper. Serial No. 6496. Signed by Alston and Hill. Uniface. Small format size. Snake vignette. Another choice note from the “menagerie” series, this denomination with a coiled snake with a sword in scabbard in its mouth. The golden-beige paper supports still-bold imprints throughout much of the note. From a deceiving issue amount of 12,500 notes. Most were redeemed for later notes and destroyed, or simply frayed in circulation to a point that the note was worthless. Far finer than the typical surviving specimen.
