Title: Miniature Copper Shield
Description: A miniature copper shield, possibly made from a piece of a larger shield destroyed at a potlatch; per Quiggin, p. 302, "They are classed by Emmons [G. T. Emmons, "Jade in British Columbia," I.N.M. Misc., 35, 1923] together with the larger coppers as 'used as medium of exchange before the coast was visited by Europeans'..." Phares O. Sigler, however, writing in The Numismatist, September 1950, considered them to be merely ornaments. This example is holed at the bottom instead of the top, and has slight verdigris. Also included: 10 excavated snail shells on a modern plastic cord.
